About the Journal
Jurnal Optimasi Sistem Industri (JOSI) with ISSN: 2442-8795 (online medium) and 2088-4842 (print medium), translated as Journal on Optimization of Systems in Industries, is a distinguished peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly periodical. Since its inception in 2001, JOSI has been dedicated to publishing high-quality research papers, technical papers, conceptual papers, and case study reports that undergo a rigorous peer-review process, ensuring the highest standards of scholarly integrity.
Published by the Industrial Engineering Department at Universitas Andalas, Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia, JOSI focuses on optimising soft systems aspects of industrial operations and engineering. While we welcome discussions on hard systems, these must optimise soft system aspects as outlined in our focus and scope. Our commitment to interdisciplinary approaches is aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in quality education, decent work and economic growth, industry innovation, and responsible consumption and production.
JOSI ensures unrestricted access to all articles under open licenses, promoting the free dissemination of knowledge without charging any publication fees. This approach supports the global academic community by making research accessible to everyone. We accept manuscripts in English and facilitate the translation of articles submitted in other languages, subject to a translation fee before publication acceptance, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for authors worldwide.
JOSI is indexed by Scopus, Q3 in Scimago Journal Rank, the DOAJ, and Sinta, attesting to our quality and impact in industrial engineering. We maintain strong collaborations with The Institution of Engineers Indonesia (Persatuan Insinyur Indonesia) and BKSTI (Badan Kerjasama Penyelenggara Pendidikan Tinggi Teknik Industri), which provide editorial members, peer reviewers, and authors who support the journal’s aims and scope.
JOSI meets all essential criteria for high-standard open-access journals. We have a valid and confirmed ISSN, ensuring persistent identification. Our rigorous evaluation process guarantees that we publish scholarly articles of the highest quality. All journal outputs are freely accessible and carry open licenses in the article-level metadata. We do not charge publication fees, making our journal accessible to all authors. Submissions are welcome from authors of all affiliations, provided their research aligns with our journal's aims and scope. Furthermore, JOSI is owned by a public, non-profit organisation that promotes research and scholarship.
Focus
Jurnal Optimasi Sistem Industri (JOSI) publishes research in industrial engineering and operations with a distinctive emphasis on decision-centric optimization of socio-technical (“soft”) systems, the human, organizational, and managerial dimensions that shape system performance. We also consider hard-systems studies (models, algorithms, technologies) when they directly support soft-systems optimization and demonstrably improve operational decisions.
Scope
- Decision and optimization in socio-technical systems: Soft Systems Methodology and other problem-structuring methods, system dynamics for policy design, multi-criteria decision making, and robust/stochastic/multiobjective optimization.
- Human factors and ergonomics in operations include work design, safety climate and culture, risk assessment, ergonomics evaluation, and human-automation teaming.
- Operations & supply chains: production planning and scheduling; logistics/last-mile; network design; sustainable/circular supply chains; inventory and demand forecasting; quality and reliability engineering.
- Data-driven operations research and analytics include discrete-event simulation, agent-based modeling, system dynamics simulation, heuristics and metaheuristics, artificial intelligence and machine learning applied to operations, and digital twins.
- Design & assets for operations: product/service and facility design when tied to measurable operations outcomes; maintenance; and asset management with reliability/optimization models.
- In the contexts of Industry 4.0 and 5.0, which include IoT, automation, and cyber-physical systems, the contribution is an operations and industrial engineering decision model.
Methods we prioritize
We use various methods such as optimization (exact/heuristic/metaheuristic), simulation (discrete-event, agent-based, system dynamics), MCDM, experiments/quasi-experiments, ergonomic field studies, survey-based structural models, and mixed methods to deliver actionable decision insights.
Out-of-scope (desk reject)
- General management/finance/industrial policy/HR topics without an operations/IE decision model or measurable system-performance link
- Purely descriptive case reports without method or validation
- Computer-science-centric papers (e.g., generic ML architectures) without a concrete operations application
